Dramatic Product Animation

Hopefully you aren’t sick of seeing this. Other than some short tests, this is the last animation I created that was fairly involved. This is the animation I show you how to create in the KeyShot Animation Masterclass. Like any project, there was plenty of learning experiences here.

The sound design on this is too good!

Looks perfect  When I creating animation I am struggling with background sound to match it, but you totally nailed it  Animation is really detailed and looks stunning. Especially love that ending part when product is complete and that transition from black to white

This is so inspiring. The sound made it even more exciting.

Hi, how long did it take to render and what machine did you use?

Hi, I used a render farm (KeyShotFarms). I don’t recall how long it took. Most of the time I was using 256 threads on the farm I think. I rented the farm for a week, so I rendered for less than a week. Maybe around 40 hours total?

Wait a minute, only this took 40 hours?
I am pretty much dead with my animation project. It’s almost 4 minutes long.

Yes, unfortunately. Ther’es quite a few factors at play here.

  1. The camera is very close to the subject, meaning many raytraced pixels on each frame.
  2. Depth of field in camera. This slows things down a lot.
  3. Parts of the animation were grainy and I wanted to make sure there was minimal noise. The denoiser killed some of the details on the PCB, so I rendered without any denoise and that made me have to render greater samples for no noise.
  4. I rendered at 1920x1080p I beleive.

Thanks for the details @will.gibbons. These are very good insights.

I am not that much of a dramatic person. This is my first big animation project I have done so far. So I am a little apprehensive.

I do not use fancy, elaborate materials like you do. Since this is a technical animation, I am using very simple materials. So it will be much easier for me.

Bwt I earned 10k points and redeemed your animation masterclass. I believe that will have an impact on me. Thanks in advance.

Okay, in that case, with simple materials, you should be able to limit ray bounces and keep render settings pretty minimal. That will certainly help.

Awesome! I hope you learn a lot from that.

KeyShot doesn’t have any sound editing capabilities. The post production was done in DaVinci Resolve.

THanks! do you have tutorials about post production?
